Archbishop Linley was educated firstly at local Church of England schools and then at the Open University (BA, DipEurHum) as well as studying theology via distance learning at the former University of Wales. He became interested in religion in a non-confessional sense at secondary school, but did not begin attending church until his teens, when his growing interest in church music led him to win the organ scholarship of his local Anglican parish church. He continued in music ministry for four years, during which his interest in theology deepened, leading eventually to his studying the subject as a mature undergraduate, followed by ordination in the Free Church tradition in 2003. This was followed by Apostolic ordination and consecration in 2006. In 2015 he was appointed Archbishop of Great Britain, Chancellor and Secretary of Metropolitan Synod in the Apostolic Episcopal Church and Chancellor of the Catholicate of the West. In addition to his administrative responsibilities for this geographically widespread communion, he continues to be active in parish ministry.
An experienced liturgist, he has compiled and edited a number of the liturgies of the former English Liberal Free Church. He is a Certified Funeral Minister, and has been listed as a Funeral Officiant in the Natural Death Handbook. His academic specialisms lie in sacramental theology, liturgical ceremonial and vesture, in which areas he examines to postgraduate level. Between 2007 and 2016 he served as Vice-President of European-American University, Dominica. He is married to Geraldine and lives in London.
